80 in 8 practice test
80 multiple-choice questions, 8 minutes, +1 for right and −1 for wrong. Skipping costs nothing.
What the 80 in 8 is
The “80 in 8” is the name candidates use for the mental arithmetic test reported at the start of Optiver’s trading application: 80 questions in 8 minutes, with no calculator. Optiver does not publish the format, so everything here comes from candidate reports, which describe:
- Multiple choice, usually four options.
- All four operations on whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
- Missing-number questions like 7 × ? = 25.9.
- Negative marking, commonly reported as +1 for right and −1 for wrong.
Formats can change between hiring cycles, so check what your invitation says.
How this practice test works
QuantDrill’s version follows the reported shape: 80 questions, 8 minutes, four options each, +1 for right, −1 for wrong, 0 for a skip. Tap an option, or press 1 to 4 on a keyboard and S to skip. Your results page breaks down right, wrong and skipped, your accuracy and every past score.
How to score higher
- Skip rather than guess. With −1 for a wrong answer, a guess between four options loses points on average.
- Estimate to eliminate. Often only one option is the right size.
- Drill the parts separately: decimals, fractions and the classic drill for whole-number speed.
Also called the Optiver maths test, Optiver numerical test, Optiver mental arithmetic test or 80 questions in 8 minutes.

Questions people ask
Is the Optiver 80 in 8 multiple choice?
Candidate reports consistently describe it as multiple choice with four options. Optiver has not published an official format.
Is there negative marking on the 80 in 8?
It is commonly reported as +1 for a right answer and −1 for a wrong one, which is why skipping is often better than guessing.
Do I need to finish all 80 questions?
