How to divide faster in your head
- Ask a times table question. 602 ÷ 7 asks what times 7 makes 602.
- Find the tens digit first. 7 × 80 = 560, leaving 42, which is 7 × 6. Answer: 86.
- Halve for even divisors. Dividing by 4 is halving twice; by 8, three times.
How the drill works
Questions are multiplications in reverse: you divide by a number from 2 to 12 and the answer is between 2 and 100.

How do I get faster at mental division?
Know your times tables cold. Division is multiplication backwards, so speed there carries straight over.
